Digital skills, learned at your pace

Study Questions

Straight answers about how the courses run, what you need to start and how learning at your own pace works.

Questions before you begin

Most people ask the same things before their first lesson. These answers cover prerequisites, pace, practice and what you can realistically expect to be able to do afterwards.

Do I need any experience before starting a course?

No. Computer Basics for Adults begins at the keyboard and mouse and assumes nothing. Other modules list their own starting points, such as owning a smartphone or being able to open a web browser. If you are unsure where you fit, write to us and we will suggest a sensible first module.

What equipment do I need?

You need the device you want to learn on: a laptop or desktop computer, a smartphone or a tablet, plus a working internet connection. You do not need the newest model. Tell us what you own and we will point out which lessons apply to it and which settings may look slightly different.

How long does each course take?

Courses are short and split into small lessons, so you can stop and pick up again without losing your place. Most learners work through a module over several weeks at a few lessons a week. There are no fixed class times, so the speed is yours to set.

What happens if I get stuck on a lesson?

Every lesson ends with a practice task, and you can repeat any lesson as often as you like. If something still does not make sense, send your question through the contact page. An instructor replies in writing with a plain explanation, not a link to a manual.

Will I learn on real tasks or just theory?

Real tasks. Practice follows what people actually do: writing an email, sending a photo, joining a video call, spotting a suspicious message or checking a bank balance safely. Each lesson explains why a step matters, so you can repeat it on your own afterwards.

Are the AI lessons about trusting what a chatbot says?

They are about the opposite as much as the use. You learn what AI assistants do well, where they make mistakes and how to check an answer before relying on it. You then practise using them for drafting a letter, planning a week or looking up a simple question.

Do the courses lead to a certificate or a qualification?

No. The courses are practical learning, not a credential, and we do not promise a certificate or a job outcome. What you can expect is more confidence with the tools you use daily and fewer moments of being unsure what to click.

Can someone help me choose between courses?

Yes. Many people start with Computer Basics or Smartphones Made Simple and add Internet Safety Essentials soon after. Tell us what you want to be able to do, such as video call a grandchild or bank online, and we will suggest an order that fits.
